1. BREEDING We rarely even breed and when we do, we do much research in the pedigree, conformation, health testing and temperament. The sole purpose of us breeding is for the Betterment of the Breed. When and if we do breed any two dogs together we try to produce puppies better than their parents. If any of our Danes do not pass any health testing, they are not bred. We do testing on heart, thyroid, eyes, hips and elbows.
2. REGISTRATION All puppies will be registered with the American Kennel Club. The buyer will be supplied with AKC registration papers, 3 generation pedigree, all health testing done on the parents, micro-chip, bag of food, posting kit and toy. I will approve the Canadian Kennel Club and/or United Kennel Club if the new buyer wish to register with the accepted registry, but we DO NOT endorse or accept for any reason what so ever the Continental Kennel Club, since this is a scam registry for puppy millers and back yard breeders. If the breeder does so find out that the puppy has been register with the Continental Kennel Club, any and all contracts between the buyers and breeder will be null and void and puppy is the be returned to the breeder at the buyer expense, per contract.
3. EARS We have decided to let the new owner decide to have ears done, but we strongly suggest if you wish to have cropped ears to let Strebor have it done, it so hard to find a Dane savy vet to crop ears. All crops will have to paid up front if cropping is desired. There is no refunds on ear cropping fee and no guarntee on crops preformed. The ears will be done at 7 1/2 weeks to 8 weeks depending on our vets availability. We give a guide and show our method of posting. It takes time for ears to stand. Once the ears have healed from the cropping, normally about 10 to 14 days, then the posting begins. The ears will have to be posted until they stand and that can vary depending on time, patience, posting and ear leather; and it can take as long as 4 to 14 months. If the owner does not have the time for the posting and aftercare, natural is the way to go. Better natural than not standing at all. Strebor uses Dr. Bill Martin for ear cropping. His website is www.earsbydrbill.com to see some of his wonderful work. He is also highly recommend by Judge Breeders and friends.
4. NAMING Strebor has the right to name the puppy on the American Kennel Club (AKC) registration papers and/or Strebor has the right to have it's kennel at the beginning of the puppy's name. The call name can be of any choice.
5. VACCINATIONS & WORMING All puppies will be checked by a licensed veterinarian on several occasions. The puppies will go home with their first set of vaccination for parvo/distemper by 8 weeks old. We only use 5-in-1. If the puppy is needing the 7-in-1 due to the location of new home, I will need to know in advance. They will be de wormed at 4 and 7 weeks. We don't do Heart worm treatment until the age of 4 months but that is the buyers choice to make. Two reason, it depends on the weather when the puppies are born and it takes the heart worm larva to develop up to 6 months. We recommend strongly to use the new Protocol by Dr. Dobbs on vaccinating puppies, we do 5-n-1 at 8, 12 and 16. Brotella 20 weeks. 1 year rabies 24 weeks or older. One booster shot a year after the last 5-n-1 and the 3 year rabies one year after the rabies shot and a worming check up every year.
6. FEEDING We suggest and recommend a high meat quality diet in Great Danes. We do not recommend any grain base diet dog food. Everyone says watch out for the protein level in dog food with giant breeds. After many years of doing RAW we believe in that it the type of protein thats in the dog food. GRAIN Based dog food: Corn, wheat, flour is just not for dogs and they can not digest it well. Your main concern should be is to watch out for the Calcium and Phosphate level. They need to be in ratio and less than 2.0% Please read Raw 101 to get an idea in what a dog really needs. If not RAW, we suggest Taste of the Wild and Orijen also other great high quality dog foods. Please do research on varity of dog foods before feeding any giant dog. We will accept other dog foods but must be approved by Strebor Danes.
7. ALL PET QUALITY PUPPIES will be placed on a spay/neuter contract with limited registration. All puppies will be co-owned until proof of spay/neuter is verified from a vet, then I will sign off the co-ownership. This is merely to protect me, my line and their anscestors. I don't believe in holding papers until the spay and neuter is done. This is too long of a wait to hold papers. I don't believe in spaying and neutering until the dog/bitch has mature and this can be long as 12 to 18 months (12 months for males and up to 18 months for females until after the bitch puppy has had her first heat cycle. This will allow the owner to enjoy all and any AKC performance events such as Rally, Obedience, CGC testing, Junior Handling, etc. Except conformation. If the puppy does becomes wonderful in every way in conformation, I as the breeder can and will lift the limited registration before the puppy reaches 6 months of age so that the dog/bitch can be shown in conformation with an additional charge for a show puppy price but not until the additional purchase price is paid in full.
8. SHOW POTENTIALS PUPPIES All show potentials puppies will be placed on a show contract and co-ownership with full registration. A show puppy will only be going to those that are serious, have experience, interested and activity involved in showing in register AKC events and the puppy's to its AKC championship. I will accept United Kennel Club and International showing.
9. PET PUPPIES vs SHOW PUPPIES A PET/COMPANION puppy is merely a puppy that may have an undesirable look or color and attitude/temperament for the conformation ring. This does not mean you have a poorly breed puppy. This does not mean you have genetic problems. There are show and pet quality in the best well breed litters. When a litter is planned, much thought, consideration, research and analysis is put together to find the best possibly match to be bred even if it means driving or flying clear cross the country to get that perfect mate.
10. OLDER PUPPIES/ADULTS/RESCUES We do offer older and rescues dogs periodically for an adoption fee. All older puppy/adults/rescues will be spayed or neuter before leaving Strebor's property depending on the age of the puppy or dog. If you wish to adopt an older or rescue you must have a application on file.
11. SPAY & NEUTERS We do not spay or neuter any dogs before 12 months. Females normally (12 to 18 months) after their first heat cycle. The main reason is it takes Great Danes a long time to grow to their full potential sometimes and as long as 3 years. In a Great Danes first year of life it will grow over a 100 times bigger or more since birth. You don't want to take away the growth hormones and trigger an uneven growth pattern, so by 12 months they are pretty much finished growing and having any major growth spurts.
All our puppies are to be sold as pets first! We like to place all of our puppies in forever homes. We encourage everyone to get involve with an ALL BREED KENNEL CLUB or PARENT CLUB and venture with their dogs and learn as much as possible. Training is a great way to bond with your puppy and is a much needed in order to have a happy, lovable and well-manner Great Dane. Training is started on day one, by holding and socializing with children, visitors, cats and rabbits. A puppy obedience training course is recommend at 12 weeks or as early as the instructor will let you. It is very important to socialize all puppies don't matter what size or breed with every possible environment through out the puppy life, especially between the age of 9 weeks to 16 weeks. Person (large men, small children, women), other dogs and animals (small and large), noises, objects. We suggest that all puppies be tested for Canine Good Citizenship, this proves that you did your job as a responsible dog owner !!!!! Take pride in what you have accomplished.
Strebor has the right NOT to sale to any home at any time that we may feel that is not suitable for one of our puppies/older puppies. adults and rescues; this also means if there is any concerns for the future welfare or health for the puppy after an approved application and deposit has been received. We may ask or ask someone to inspect the potential buyer(s); any refusal will result in delay in purchasing a Strebor puppy or adopting an older or rescue puppy/dog. We do not sell to puppy millers or for breeding purposes, so don't ask.
Once pregnancy is confirmed, deposits will be accepted on approved applications. A $500.00 deposit of which $250.00 will be a non refundable fee is required to reserve a puppy. All Monies will be refunded ONLY if we do not have the color or sex of your choice based on your application. Puppies will be evaluated at 4, 6 and 8 weeks old. Puppies will not be placed no earlier than 8 weeks old. Puppy has to be paid in full by 7 weeks of age to allow any monies to clear. No Refunds will be given if puppy is paid in full after 8 weeks of age.
We wish and recommend for the puppy to be picked up in person, if not possible, we will ship only by Delta when weather is suitable for an additional charge of $350 on the buyers behalf. The puppy will be shipped in a crate, and health check from a vet and all necessary paper work and kits will be mail certified overnight. The puppy and flight arrangements have to be paid in full by age of 6 weeks in order to allow time to arrange flight. I will also consider meeting half way if the travel is a reasonable distance (within 500 miles) for half the price ($175).
